How to Clean Wooden Garden Furniture

Cleaning wooden garden furniture is essential to maintaining its stunning appearance and durability. Here are some easy steps you can follow to make sure your wooden garden furniture has a long and charming future.

What you will need:

  • Washing-up liquid or similar gentle cleaner
  • Sweeping Brush or Handheld brush
  • Microfibre cloth
  • Soft-bristled brush (Optional)

Prepare the furniture for cleaning:

First of all you should remove any cushions and soft furnishings. Then you need to brush away any loose debris like leaves, bird droppings, or food. We recommend using a sweeping brush or handheld brush to brush the furniture. Due to the nature of wooden garden furniture, you can be relatively firm whilst doing this to ensure you remove as much debris as possible.

Wash down with soap and water:

Next you need to create a simple solution of warm, soapy water using washing-up liquid or a similar gentle cleaner, along with some warm water from the tap. To clean the wooden garden furniture, it is best to use a soft-bristled brush or a microfibre cloth. Use the brush or cloth to gently loosen and remove any remaining dirt and debris from the surface.

Wipe down with a damp cloth:

After cleaning down your wooden garden furniture, it can also be advantageous to give the furniture one last wipe over with a clean damp cloth. This makes sure you're not leaving any excess soapy residue on the furniture.

Further Treatments:

If you plan on applying any further treatments to your wooden garden furniture, such as painting, oiling or staining, you need to allow the furniture to air dry completely. This ensures that the relevant treatment has the opportunity to work most effectively, and not be competing with the moisture from cleaning the furniture. Don't forget, wooden garden furniture is classic and timeless, meaning that if you're willing to put in the work it can keep its effortless charm for years to come.
