Most people know the importance of cleaning and maintaining your wooden garden furniture. However, it is less well known how often you need to be undertaking this cleaning and maintenance.

When it comes to keeping your wooden garden furniture in top condition, regular cleaning and maintenance is essential. We've come up with these rough guidelines to keeping your furniture looking its best.

Monthly Cleaning and Maintenance

To help prevent build-up, it's important to wipe down the wood with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. This should be carried out monthly, but it may need doing more frequently depending on the weather and if you have any muddy paws or little hand frequenting your furniture.

Seasonal Deep Cleaning and Maintenance

Springtime: It's always a great idea to give your wooden furniture a little TLC before you're going to be spending more time outside. Depending on where you've been storing your furniture over the Winter will impact how much TLC your furniture will need, but we recommend that at minimum you would want to clean off any dirt or debris, and use warm soapy water to clean the wood down.

In Fall: Before it gets too cold to be spending time outside, it's a good idea to give your wooden furniture a general clean. It's best to remove and dirt and debris and then wipe the wooden furniture down with warm soapy water. Following this, to extend the lifespan of your furniture, it is recommended to keep them covered over the Winter, particularly if you live in particularly wet or snowy areas.

As Needed

If you notice any spills, messes or stains it's best to clean them as soon as you can. That doesn't mean if you spill your dinner on the table you must quickly put a halt to your meal, but if you do notice food, dirt or other messes, the sooner you can clean them up the better.

It's also a good idea to generally keep an eye on your wooden furniture after any extreme weather spells such as heavy rain or storms. It's important to look out for water damage or mould growth. It's worth noting that with proper care and maintenance this will be less likely to occur, but also easier to fix if it does.
