Creating an outdoor reading nook doesn't need to be complicated, but it does need to become your happy space. You want to sit down, book in hand, and just think “Ah, perfect!”. For that reason, we've put together a simple guide to creating your perfect cosy outdoor reading nook.
Choose the Perfect Spot
Choosing the perfect spot is something that shouldn't be overlooked. Depending on your personal preference, you may want to consider whether you want to be in a sunny or shady spot. You'll also want to consider what else is in close proximity to your reading nook. For example, do you want to be close to the house for topping up or drinks and snacks? Do you want to be further away from where the kids are playing to minimise noisy disruptions? Do you have a lovely tree or green area which would make the ideal backdrop?
Choose the Perfect Furniture
When it comes to furniture, it's important to choose comfortable and sturdy seating. Your choice in seating can make all the difference when it comes to lounging outside with your book.
Starting with a classic garden chair for those who like to read solo. Our Torrington Garden Arm Chair features a curved seat for added back support and comfort. It can also be used with the footstool to convert in to a lounger for ultimate relaxation.
Then you have garden seats or benches, which are perfect for lounging with a loved one, or for spreading out on your own. Our Torrington Table Garden Seat features a curved seat for added comfort, and is perfect for sitting outside for hours. It also features wide side tables which are ideal for holding your book, drinks or snacks.
Similarly, if you interested in a larger seat, but you wanted something a little more unique, a garden swing hammock could be perfect for you. Our 6ft wooden garden swing hammock is our larger swing hammock, giving you even more space to relax outside. It features a lovely curved seat and seat angle adjustment for added comfort, as well as convenient side tables for resting your book.
Choose the Perfect Lighting
Lighting is something important to consider both during the day, and on an evening.
As we mentioned you need to decide whether you're aiming for a sunny or a shady spot; you might even want to consider somewhere which has a combination throughout the day. You could achieve a mixture of lighting by choosing a sunny spot, but by including a parasol in your reading nook.
If you want to enjoy your reading book on an evening, then lighting is very important. You may want to consider a variety of lighting options including outdoor lamps, string lights and solar-powered lighting. You may want to consider choosing lighting which is multifunctional and could also be used in a social or mealtime setting.
The only thing left to decide now is which book you're going to read first!
