Struggling to get your kids outside in the cool Winter weather? We've come up with this simple guide for inspiring the family to not just get outside, but also have fun doing it.
The simple act of gathering treasures can make an ordinary walk in nature something more special. Depending on where your walk takes you, our favourite things to collect are conkers, pine cones, rocks and shells.
Continuing on with the theme of collecting, you can get the kids to collect treasures which they can later use in some Winter crafting. Some great things to collect for crafts include leaves, sticks, stones and flowers.
If you happen to find yourself in the run up to Christmas, an evening stroll around the neighbourhood can be a great way to encourage the kids to go outside. By incorporating Christmas festivities into your evening walk, your walk will feel much more exciting and engaging. Why not make it into a competition? Who can spot the best (or worst) Christmas lights?
One of the trickier things about getting the kids out the house in Winter is that it can sometimes have a habit of being pricey. Rather than taking your kids to your nearest high-street coffee chain, why not make your own? Make some festive biscuits, cookies or hot chocolates and take them for a wander.
Yes it might sound a little strange to be setting up outside in the British winter weather but hear us out! Wrap yourselves up in lots of layers and cosy up round the fire and you won't be feeling the cold (much). To add a further level of cosiness, why not toast some marshmallows and enjoy some lovely indulgent hot chocolates?
Before you go out for your walk, set yourselves a list of fun things to find or observe. Your list could include anything from spotting animal tracks in the mud, to birds up in trees. By giving your outing an activity, you're making it more engaging and less like a chore for the little ones.
It's not always guaranteed but when you have snow, make the most of it. Whether it's going for a snowy walk, building a snowman or sledging down a snowy hill, there's nothing better than making snowy memories with your family that will be remembered for a lifetime.
